Who is The Bad Back Guy?
The Bad Back Guy
The Bad Back Guy’s Ultimate Bad Back Strategies has grown out of a quest of sorts, a quest to understand what I refer to as the back pain complex…neck pain, back pain, and sciatica in all of their expressions.
It is my hope you will find what you need here. If not, please contact me and I will do everything possible to help you overcome your pain.
How to Stop Back Pain and Sciatica and The 30 Day Walk Away from Back Pain and Sciatica is the outgrowth of an attempt to reclaim my own life and help others do the same. The 30 Day Challenge has grown into a broader, more inclusive “quest” to help as many people as I can overcome neck pain, back pain, and sciatica…as I have!
Join me and reclaim your life…a neck pain, back pain, and sciatica free life!

John-
Very impressive story. I had back surgery in 1988 for a cyst removal at l5-S1 which was agonizing since it was on the nerve for 3 years before it showed up. Anyways, i had a complete tear of my rectus abdominis and torn adductors which wreaks havoc on your back. In fact it took 4.5 years of agony to get operated on since it is so rare. I know am left with the surgey side doing well but now my opposite side back is sore. Psoas is tight, quad, TFL and glute medius. Also piriformis on that side as well as tight hammy due to anterior pelvic rotation. I am getting back in shape. I was 200 pounds before injury in 2004 and was 276 before surgery. I am now 239 and i workout daily but this opposite side back pain is a thorn in my side. No sciatica, but do have the butt and hammy ache. Had an MRI and was a mild disc bulge (been there since i was 20) and all nerve openings were patent and open.
I love your site

John-
Are you completely pain free? Or do you have some residual pain/tightness. You appear to be pain free and i congratulate you.
Professor Zajaros,
I am not sure how I stumbled upon one of your videos but I was quite interested in your brief statement regarding degenerative back disease. I am 27, former high school athlete, and I am extremely active (6′1” 178 pounds). Four months ago, during a intramural flag football game I felt a lower back sensation and continued to feel a constant pain and a lack of motion. I went in and saw an amazing doctor and following a brief time with her, and an MRI, I was informed that I have an annular tear, and degenerative disc disease (and a possible fracture).
What can I do to overcome this?? Obviously this was devastating to me and my active lifestyle. I frequent the gym on a daily basis (not for the past 2 to 3 months), but have lost about 10 pounds the last few months from aggravating my current injury. Are there supplements that I can take? I refuse to give up my active lifestyle and hope that I can return to full strength. I am returning to see my doctor on Jan 4th, but wanted to ask others for advice as well.
I am sure you are busy, but when I returned home from the hospital I was at an all time low, and would really appreciate any help. Thanks for providing others with your support and helpful statements on various blogs.
I didn’t know it would be placed on your blog. Hopefully you can remove the comment once you have had time to look over the message.
Hi Paul!
Sorry about the lag and I am so glad to hear you are on the mend. Yes, the weight gain with the inactivity creates its own problems. I do get some tightness and once in a while if I over do it I get some soreness but overall I am as pain free as I have ever been…and that goes back to 1971 when I had my first fusion and then 1972 when I “damaged” it while in the Army. Not a great thing to do, enlist after a fusion. But it was 1972 and they were taking everyone because of that little thing going on in SE Asia! Every successive surgery put me in a bigger hole and created more problems. It wasn’t until the osteomyelitis and the cancer that I really had to get very serious, apply my education, training, and experience for my own benefit. I just can’t believe it took almost losing my life to reclaim it. Better late than never, huh?
Anyway, thanks so much for reading and for commenting, it means a lot to me! Thank you too for the email…it kicked me in the butt and got me focused again.
Take care Paul!
John
Hi Taylor!
I took off the email address and your last name…that way your identity is protected. I hope that works for you? If you want me to take it down now that I have read it and responded via email, I will.
John
Hi Taylor!
I take a few days off and I get more comments on my various blogs than I have received in a year! Go figure! I apologize for not getting back to you.
I removed your email address and your last name from the comment. This way people can still gain insight from the comment
without knowing who you are. If you want me to take it all the way down, just let me know.
An annular tear is simply a tear in the annulus fibrosus, the outer cartilaginous ring that holds the nucleus pulposus in place and
maintains the integrity of the disc. As long as it isn’t a bad tear, you should be fine, the body will repair itself. If the tear is enough
to allow the nucleus to protrude laterally and posteriorly, meaning to the side and back, you may have some nerve root pressure
…and that can be very painful.
By now, the MRI should have provided a window into what is going on. Now a-days they can do a laminectomy and you can be
good to go in no time, if you have nerve root involvement. Joe Montana played football for th4e 49ers 3 weeks after his!
If you don’t have a herniated (ruptured) disc or one that is impinging on the nerve root they won’t operate, nor should you let them!
Most back pain resolves in short order on its own. Most people don’t realize that and most physicians don’t tell you…for whatever
reason.
If you are still having pain after 90 days you need to get more aggressive.
I suggest the program at http://thebadbackguy.net because it works for most people. Funny thing about it? I have been accused of
spamming and scamming and everything else. I give every dime I get from the sales to a charity for children here in Cleveland!
Oh well, such is life!
If you are having issues and the program above doesn’t do it for you or you would like more information, just let me know. If you are
local (or not?) I can also work with you one-on-one.
In any case, I wish you the best!
Sincerely,
John
PS, I also sent this to your email address!
